Ruse in partnership with The Last Supper Club is seeking performers for
Carnevale
A night to revel without restraint
CARNEVALE is the first event in a series of parties inspired by Dante’s inferno and the seven deadly sins. We are reimagining catholic icons and rituals and exploring the intersections with other world religions. The experience invites guest to go on a journey of transformation from sinner to saint. But here, sainthood isn't about remaining pure and resisting temptation. Its about releasing shame and embracing desires.

The Guides
Virgil
Rate: $100
Virgil is your guide through Liminale, the eternal realm that encompasses Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory. He leads the guests on a journey to release their shame and embrace their desires. Virgil is Pippin’s Leading Player, meets the Emcee in Cabaret, meets Rod Serling of the Twilight Zone, with a dash of Cassanova. He is charismatic in the way that makes you feel like you’re the most interesting person in the room. Dangerous, exciting, mysterious, but not aloof. The kind of person who makes you wonder if they’re flirting with you.
Requires 2-3 rehearsals to be scheduled based on availability.
Acting experience required. Dance, burlesque and/or singing ability preferred.
The Duchess
Rate: $100
She is the person who welcomes everyone to Liminale, checks them on the list, and gives them the lay of the land. She sees this role as absolutely vital, and takes it very seriously… perhaps too seriously. In he mortal life, the Duchess had everything she could ever wish for. In the afterlife, she clings to whatever semblance of that power she can, but she just can’t seem to ascend. She is also obsessed with Virgil, but resents the power he has over her. The Duchess could be described as whimsical... and possibly deranged.
She is a combination of the Queen of Hearts, Marie Antionette, Camila (of the British Royal family), the secretary in Beetlejuice, and her namesake, Andy Warhol superstar, Brigid Berlin, who was known as The Duchess.
Requires 2-3 rehearsals to be scheduled based on availability.
Interactive acting experience required.
The Oracle
Rate: $100
The high priestess, the vessel for messages from the gods. She is masked, mysterious, ethereal. She grants access to heaven and hell. She helps guests process their shame around sin and reclaim their desires through a one-on-one experience. She also leads the final ritual: The Undoctrination Ceremony.
Requires 3-5 rehearsals to be scheduled based on availability.
Interactive experience required. Singing ability preferred. This role requires the performer to actively respond to and incorporate the guest’s contributions.
The Resident Sinners
The sinners (representing each of the 7 deadly sins) are stuck in purgatory. In order to get into hell, they must free themselves from the shame of their sin. In their earthly lives they struggled with an excess of indulgence. In Liminale, they are put in roles to test them and teach them how to indulge with intention, without overdoing it.
Each performer will both play a character and also serve a practical function for the event. You will be paired with another sinner so you can take turns working and exploring the party as an atmospheric performer.
Greed and Gluttony
Rate: $50 (each)
These two will monitor the VIP section, which includes a banquet table of delectable delights, and a large banquet couch. The VIP section is highly visible from the dance floor and will serve as the object of Envy for the non-VIP guests, tantalizing them with the lavishness of the spread.
In addition to embodying your sins, you will be responsible for replenishing the gluttony table and checking VIP guests for a special stamp for access. Preferably has experience with charcuterie plating and/or food service.
Sloth and Wrath
Rate: $50 (each) + tips
Sloth and wrath are in charge of helping the Duchess with check-in and coat check, and they have a bit where wrath is angry at sloth for complaining about doing the physical labor of coat check. They will also be able to take turns to explore the party once most guests have arrived.
Envy
Rate: $50
Envy is a floater in the space helping out where needed. They'll talk to the guests about how they’re jealous of all of the things the guests can do but they can't as a way to let the guests know what they can do. They will also help facilitate guests waiting for a one-on-one experience with the Oracle.
Lust and Pride
Rate: 10% referral bonus only
Budget permitting, we are hoping to possibly add some payment for these roles if the performers can also do a specialty act (ie burlesque). We also welcome proposals that include soliciting tips.
The objects of desire and life of the party, these performers are in charge of getting people moving on the dance floor encouraging guests to interact with written prompts and other activations throughout the space. There is also the potential to develop interactive bits to play with the audience (ie delivering love letters or mirror check).
Because it is an unpaid role, we don't require any additional labor for this role (beyond ambient performance and guest interaction), but if you are willing, I'm sure there will be a point when we could use extra hands during the evening.
